When I was in school, I hated history—or so I thought. What I actually hated was memorizing the dates and wheres of the birth and death of names of people. I couldn’t keep any of that useless information in my head longer than it took for me to dump it onto the test paper. I promptly released it and I went on to more interesting things in life. But give me a story, tell me why this guy did thus and so, and how it affected her decisions, and I am captured. I’ll never forget him, or her.
Oh, I may still forget his name, or the exact date of her birth and death, but I will never forget what he did, why she did it, and the impact it had on their world. That is STORY—his and hers. And THAT is what I don't want to forget. I often wonder how the world got to be the way it is. Which makes me wonder: Why did this guy make that decision? So I explore the times and the players and I write their stories. Simple, eh?
I have enjoyed years of researching the WHYs of history. I can’t put all the cool stuff into my novels, but it’s still fun to share what I learn along the way. If you’d like to taste the morsels of history that probably won’t make it into my books, join me on my journey. I’d love to share! Subscribe to my reader list to get the rest of the good stuff!
